We are an emergency physician and nurse practitioner who have each lost a parent while navigating this broken system. We saw it from both sides — as clinicians who discharge patients into a gap that has no name — where mom doesn't qualify for skilled nursing care but cannot be safe at home alone — and as adult children who couldn't find help fast enough when our own families needed it.

In America, we use nurses to provide services for elders that babysitters provide for children. Bathing, dressing, toileting — we do these things for babies every day without a nursing degree. Classifying this as nursing care has made basic dignity unaffordable and inaccessible. That is a systems failure.

We know what it feels like to be in that home. We know every pain point where the system fragments. We are not building this from a whiteboard. We built it from lived experience — from both sides of the hospital bed, all the way home.
